Aug. 16—“Storytelling”: Liz Warren, a fourth-generation Arizonan, is a storyteller, teacher, writer, and one of the founders of the South Mountain Community College Storytelling Institute. She tells a variety of stories, but particularly loves telling tales that reflect the heroic journey of personal transformation – whether they are stories of growing up in Arizona, traditional folktales, or myths from ancient traditions. Travel to new destinations through the power of storytelling.
Aug. 23—“Key to the Keys”: Join organist Dr. Jeremy Peterman as he presents an overview of how our keyboard instruments work. In this kid-friendly performance, we’ll learn about the hammers, strings, pedals of the grand piano and explore La Casa’s most recent acquisition, the splendid harpsichord. Then, we’ll get an organist’s perspective of the magnificent Berghaus organ. Dr. Peterman will play several pieces that highlight the capabilities of each instrument in an evening that is sure to feed your mind and soul!
Aug. 30—“Glass Virtuoso”: Lynn Drye is one of the few glass concert artists in the world today. She performs on a number of glass instruments including the glass harmonica (invented by Benjamin Franklin), glass harp, musical bowls, and glass xylophone. Ms. Drye performs classical works written specifically for the glass harmonica in addition to her own arrangements of folk tunes, classical, and contemporary works. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear some of the world’s rarest musical instruments!
