A Strong Shelter

October 27, 2020

Indeed, you are my shelter, a strong tower that protects me…Psalm 61:3

Faithful friends may weave in and out of our lives but they can truly be a shelter when present. It amazes me just how often God helps us to see what we are in need of. This past week the feeling of loneliness was hovering over me. His spotlight got my attention by shining on the power of friendship.

I have seen His work through my daughter who is navigating the path of her first semester of college. Being away from home, in a new environment, and the uncertainties of this time have made her path unstable. She recently reached out to a longtime friend whom she had grown apart from. They met for coffee and had a wonderful time catching up with each other. They plan on hiking together soon. Reconnecting with her friend has provided stability and support for my daughter.

My husband and I had an unexpected visit with some of our dearest friends. Talk about faithful friends! We have stood shoulder to shoulder with one another through good and bad times since high school. God knew I needed to feel their supportive comfort this week. They are our shelter as we are theirs, treasures whom God has placed in our lives.

God, I am grateful to You for showing us the power of friendship, for giving us the feeling of support and togetherness when needed. Thank You for keeping us with the friends who provide shelter and encourage us to be the best we can be. Thank You for being our ultimate shelter, a strong tower that protects us at all times.
