Better Together

January 25, 2021

God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. 1 Corinthians 12:18

Can a calendar break up a marriage? Asking for a friend (or not)! Recently, I was filling out my new wall calendar for 2021. Birthdays, holidays, appointments, all there in black and white for the entire family to see—and appreciate.

But one person in my family did not appreciate my old-school wall calendar—my husband. He looked at me like I was crazy and asked why I didn’t use the calendar on my phone.

This wasn’t the first time my husband’s and my personalities clashed. We are as different as night and day. I thrive on structure and organization. My husband, not so much.

Isn’t it silly to argue over personal preference? God knew what he was doing when he created my husband. Besides, we don’t need another overly structured, calendar-crazy person in our home. His spontaneity is one of the things I love about him—it balances me.

Dear Jesus, the next time my husband and I disagree, help me appreciate our personal differences that ultimately complement each other and make us better together.
