Unity

May 31, 2020

I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. 1 Corinthians 1:10

I say it often, we are living in strange times. There is a lot going in the world and we are being overloaded with information. Some of this information can move us away from each other and cause division. We are better than this. I always say that we can always be better.

This was a tough night to sit down and write this as I am watching things happen all around us that cause a lot of distress to our world and division between people. This verse echoed tonight in my head as I sat down after reading and watching everything going on. What would I say if I had the opportunity to address the world? Would I have the right words?

This is what God gave me…

We need to come together and have unity. No division. Practice gratitude, faith, grace and forgiveness. Become better. We are better, why? Because we have God’s love. We just need to show it.

All things work together

May 22, 2020

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

This is all new to us. We are all getting back to the world and this may look different depending on how we feel as individuals. It’s ok to do things differently and go about life in our own ways. As we start navigating the new world we need to also learn that 7 billion other people are learning and doing it too. Some might be doing things differently than others and there may be some on the same page. As we start walking among the masses again, we need to respect all the different ways people feel. Some may want to hug, some may want to  shake hands while others may be hesitant or scared. We need to remember that everyone is going through this in their own way.  Some are ready to run into the world as others are tiptoeing in. This is our opportunity to work together and understand everything happening around us. All things work together for good.

Share each other’s burdens

May 8, 2020

“Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2

Something that we hear often is the phrase, “We are in this together”. It has been said by many different people which includes celebrities, leaders, friends and family members. Do we know what this really means? Are we doing this together? When we look around we see many different people dealing with things in very different ways. Some are still going to work and some are staying home. Some are spending more time with family and some are home alone. Some are struggling with finances as others are struggling with childcare. Regardless of where we are or who we are, we are all dealing with our own burdens. It can be tough and it can weigh us down.  The question is, what do we do? We need to reach out to one another. We need to help one another carry these burdens. Life becomes easier with help. I always fall back to one of my favorite quotes when I feel like I am distancing from people…

“I think the downside these days is thinking that I can do this all on my own. Yes you CAN do this on your own, but you’ll be a much happier human being to do it with other human beings. And I can guarantee you that.” Mick Fleetwood

Do Not Fear

May 1, 2020

We are getting through this. We are weathering the storm. The water will calm down and we will be alright.

Do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.”Isaiah 41:10

As things have become crazier and our timeline continues to get longer staying home, we need to know that God has a plan. He is with us! He is the one who never leaves us. He keeps us strong when we are breaking. He’s helping us and if we let him take control, the result is pure reward. He will lift us from our shaking ground. We will celebrate victory with Him. Continue to trust in Him!

A New and Better Way

April 21, 2020

I usually like to start up my blogs with a Bible verse ,but I thought that I would use a quote that I read earlier this week.

“Nothing should go back to normal, normal wasn’t working”

I was a person who always functioned on a schedule before the we were told so stay home. This new way of life is a challenge to me. After thinking about everything for the past few weeks, I came to the conclusion that it may have been time to change the way we do the things in our lives. As I read through scripture, I found many instances that God asked us to change and adapt to His will and His ways. This is a great time to look at the way we are doing things and see if we can change to not only improve our own life , but the lives of others. Before this all hit, we may have been looking for a way to change something in our life but we were afraid to take the step. This is a great time to take that step.

Let’s look at this situation a little deeper. This isn’t just about us, but more about everyone. Who are we staying home for? Who are we sacrificing for? Who are we missing? When you look at it like that and answer those questions, you now give the sacrifice more value. We are given a task to do the right thing. At some point we will go back to the way things were. Maybe we can start doing things in a new and better way!

The following verse sums up my thoughts:

“Just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.” 1 Corinthians 10:33
