God directs our steps

April 10, 2020

A man’s heart plans his way,
but the Lord directs his steps. Proverbs 16:9

As we are learning, it is getting harder and harder to make plans. A few months ago it was easy to plan a weekend get together, a trip out of town, a concert or birthday party. However, things have become more difficult to plan. I am reminded that sometimes certain things change and we need to trust in the Lord to guide our steps. Sometimes we have things that are really difficult to let go of, but God’s plan might have far more rewards if we are patient enough to sit back and wait for his direction.

As I sit more at home, as we have to do right now, I am trying to stay focused on where God is directing my steps. Maybe my plans needed to change so that I could focus on more on Him. When the time comes that we can get back to our normal schedule and set our plans again, we need to remember that God is in control of where our feet move.

Trust in God

April 3, 2020

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13

When I read a verse, I always try to figure out what God is trying to say to me. As I was reading through Romans the last few weeks, this verse jumped out to me. The biggest word that grabbed my attention was the word “trust.” I decided to look up the definition.

Here’s what it said: “firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.”

Trust is a very strong word and in this verse the reward to trusting in God is amazing. If we truly trust Him we will “overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Our firm belief in Him and His truth, His ability and His strength, will give us so much more hope. His hope will continue to fill us beyond capacity to the point of overflowing. As I focus on the weeks ahead, my goal is to trust in the Lord so that the Holy Spirit will overflow from me. I challenge you to do the same!

Live by Faith

March 27, 2020

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.  For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” Romans 1:16-17

As we are all learning how to not only do church differently we are also learning how to do life differently. This may mean that our kids and spouses are home all the time. We may not be driving to work anymore. There’s not a gym to go to, a practice to attend or even  a fully stocked grocery store. As humans we are built to be social and move around. We enjoy getting out and seeing the world. It’s a crazy time right now and we have to learn how to live life in a different way right now. We need to find the new social way to do things. We also need to find ways to continue to share our faith and continue our fellowship from a distance.

As much as this is a small challenge right now, we can get through this. We  live in amazing times right now. We have a huge menu of technology and resources to help us reach our community. As disconnected as we might feel with the “social distancing” world we are living in right now, we can still reach out to people though calls, texts, emails, social media and our website.

This also gives us a great opportunity to check in with people and open up new lines of communication. It is an opportunity to do ministry in a new way.

Like the above verse states, God’s faith is for everyone and we need to live by faith and with faith. As times have changed let us continue looking to God as He continues to work in our lives.
