Do everything in love. 1 Corinthians 16:14
Do everything in love. These four words, written by the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians, are a great reminder for us today. At first glance, it seems like simple advice but is it really? When pressed by a deadline or a seemingly endless list of tasks is it easy to do all of these things in love? I want to have a right spirit and do all things in love. But if I am honest the daily list of things to do, places to go, or expectations placed upon me often put me in the mode of ‘get it done quickly and without much thought’ rather than thinking about how my actions communicate love for others.
In the current climate, where once we may have done things on autopilot or without much thought, we are now challenged to do things in new and different ways that require much thought. Though I try to make sure my efforts are thorough and timely, I’m not sure I have been intentional about looking at my daily actions through the filter of “Are they being done in love?” This reminder from the Bible inspires me to look at my actions in a new way. I pray that as I continue with my day, I will take the extra time to look at how my actions and reactions are intended and being received. If love is not my motivation or not communicated adequately to those with whom I interact, may God help me align my thinking and motivations with His.
