Then David took his shepherd’s staff, selected five smooth stones from the brook and put them in the pocket of the shepherd’s pack, and with his sling in his hand approached Goliath. 1 Samuel 17:40
Do you sometimes worry you are not equipped to face the challenges before you? David didn’t. He was just a young shepherd boy when he convinced King Saul that God would help him defeat Goliath. And when Saul tried to outfit David in kingly armor, David said, “I can’t even move with all this stuff on me. I’m not used to this” (1 Samuel 17:39). So he took it off and donned his usual gear: a staff, a few stones, a sling—and his trust in God. With these, David took down the giant.
Just as God equipped David to defeat Goliath, God has given you exactly what you need to face your own challenges. So leave your worries in His hands, take up the weapon of prayer, don your usual gear, and you too will win the battle.
Thank you Lord, for giving us all we need to face the challenges before us. Amen
