You, Lord, are forgiving and good,
abounding in love to all who call to you.Psalm 86:5
Our God is a good God. It seems rather simplistic to have to state that our God is “good.” Yet, it is important that we remind ourselves of this sometimes. Not everyone automatically sees God as good. Some have an image of an angry or upset God; one who is only out to make life difficult. This is a God who is always looking over your shoulder, not out of care, but out of authority. This is not who God is. Our God is a good God.
The Bible makes it clear that God is good. The original Hebrew word used here is “tov “meaning good or pleasant. God is a pleasant, forgiving and caring God. God abounds in love and compassion. These are the qualities of who God is.Our God responds in love when called upon.
There is a fun saying that Christians often use to celebrate God. It goes like this:
God is Good!
All the time!
All the time!
God is Good!
When you call upon God, do you fully understand that you are calling upon a good God? Remind yourself of this. It is really important. Our God is good.
