Holding Our Pastors Up in Prayer

October 2, 2020

As long as Moses held up the staff in his hand, the Israelites had the advantage. But whenever he dropped his hand, the Amalekites gained the advantage. Moses’ arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold them up. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. Then they stood on each side of Moses, holding up his hands. So his hands held steady until sunset. Exodus 17:11-12

Pastors and leaders of all ministries have had their arms full, more than ever before, tending to their congregations and those to whom they minister.  The creative ways that they have come up with to reach and care for ‘the flock’ during this pandemic have taken a great deal of energy, thought, and time, as well as others coming alongside them to help in all areas. (You mean there was no “Pandemic 101” class in seminary?!)

I love the image of Aaron and Hur standing on either side of Moses, holding up his hands to support him during a battle that flip-flopped depending on how tired Moses became. Our prayerful pastors and leaders have worked to ease the fears, struggles, and concerns of all those who have been through the most difficult circumstances, so let’s hold them up in prayer and be a support in any way we can.

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for our pastors and ministry leaders and all that they do to lead Your church. We hold up their hands and ask You to give them Your strength and wisdom, and protect and guide them. In Jesus’ name, amen!
