For thus says the Lord God, the Holy one of Israel: “In returning and rest you shall be saved; In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.” Isaiah 30:15
Quietness means “cessation from activity.” God knows when we are overextended or overwhelmed and encourages us to clear our minds and our hearts so we can hear Him. During occasions when I’ve had a forced “time out” — travel delays, surgery recovery, pandemic isolation—sometimes I grump about the inconvenience and other times I welcome the opportunity to regroup. What a perfect time to receive God’s guidance. Quietness plus confidence equals strength. Our ultimate strength is our trust in the Lord.
We need this strength to overcome our natural human tendencies. Whether we lean toward insecurity or overconfidence, caution or impulsiveness, relying on God rather than our own abilities is an expression of our trust in Him.
Thank you God for being with us in the quiet times. We seek Your guiding voice and give You our trust and obedience. Let the strength that comes from trusting You uphold us in uncertain times. Amen.
