Light and Joy

January 8, 2021

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5

As the calendar turns from December to January and a new year, it is always a little challenging to me to see the festive lights of our neighborhood “go dark” as lights are removed. Some come down as early as December 26, others stay up for the twelve days of Christmas. But by early January, they are all gone.

It seems the light and joy of the season has vanished. But of course, as believers, we know it has not.

The light of Bethlehem and the light of the star that guided the Magi is with us always. It is not seen only in what we manufacture or create, such as lights on our homes or our Christmas trees. This light comes from outside of ourselves, from the holy hand of God Himself.

The light shines in the darkness. As we learned this past year, life will always have ups and downs, but when we place our hand in the hands of God, all will be okay.

May His light guide you this year!

In Christ,

Pastor Jeff Ruby
