A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. John 13:34
Love—the Beatles told us it’s all we need. Jesus commands us to love one another. Is love a noun or a verb? Is it a feeling or an action? There are four Greek words that describe “love.” Eros is romantic love. Stergo refers to the love between a parent and a child. Philia is brotherly love. Agape love is the highest form of love—perfect, unconditional, sacrificial, and pure. It’s the kind of love God has for us.
It’s not always easy for us to love others. We may get impatient with our spouse or our children. We may want to lash out at rude, difficult people. When we cannot love through our own power, we can do so by asking the Holy Spirit to help us love in difficult situations.
Dear Jesus, please help me to love others like you do.
