The Gospel of the King
“...All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me." - Matthew 28:18
The Gospel of the King: A Study of Matthew
Matthew presents Jesus as the promised Messiah-King, and the Kingdom of God is a major theme in its pages. Matthew is a bridge between the Old and New Testaments, citing the Old Testament over 100 times and showing how Jesus fulfilled prophecy. Matthew is also called “the teaching Gospel” because it showcases Jesus’ six major addresses including the Sermon on the Mount, the Parables of the Kingdom, and the Olivet Discourse. Matthew is not a chronological account of Jesus’ ministry but one that deliberately moves the reader step by step to the realization of who Jesus is and culminates with Jesus’ grand declaration: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me” (Matthew 28:18).
In this 8-session class we will take a fresh look at Jesus through Matthew’s eyes. We will study Jesus’ words and their message to us today. We will see Jesus’ miracles and try to discern their meaning. And hopefully, we will come to understand what it means to bow in reverence before the Lord Jesus and call Him our King.
