Our hope is in Him

July 25, 2020

We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield.
In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name.
May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you.
Psalm 33:20-22

I recently talked to a bunch of kids on the topic of hope. It was one of those occasions when the teacher learned as much as the kids.

I want you to think of your hope as a ladder and I want you lean that ladder on a wall. The wall represents earthly things, such as your career, talents, and friendships, to name a few. Your ladder will crumble around you when the earthly things you depended on crumble. Nothing in this world lasts forever and your ladder will fall.

But when you lean your ladder on God’s Kingdom, His Promises that never fail, your hope won’t crumble. God’s Kingdom does last forever and your ladder will stand strong. When we loosen the tight grasp we have on our earthly things, they loosen up around our hearts. That’s when God can enter and give us the peace that transcends all understanding. Peace that only God can give, the peace we will gain when we lean our ladder on God, not the world.
