Raised to Life

April 18, 2020

He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. Romans 4:25

We read this verse in light of both Good Friday and Easter. This verse is sharing that God deliver Jesus over to death for the forgiveness of our sins. At the same time, God raised Jesus to life to complete the occasion.

Jesus’ resurrection is a part of his dying on the cross. The two go hand and hand and cannot be separated from each other. Christians are people of Good Friday and Easter, not only one or the other.

When we celebrate Good Friday, we also acknowledge that there is more to the story. That Jesus did not stay dead. And, when we celebrate Easter, we celebrate what Jesus was rising from, being dead.

Thanks be to God for Jesus’ death and resurrection which forgives our sin and justifies our being.
