I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8
Most of us seek to be with someone who makes us feel safe, someone who will take care of us and love us. When we’re young that is usually a parent, and as we get older it may be our spouse or partner in life. When the person we thought would keep us safe is not able to or is unwilling to, it can be daunting. We may feel disappointed, disillusioned, and even angered by this realization.
Our faith in God can fill this emptiness created by another human who cannot be there in the way we want them to be. God is our real protector and the one who will always keep us safe and cared for. In John 17:25, Jesus prays for all believers: “May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”
