And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Matthew 6:13
It has been a strange week. Our world has started to slowly open up. I know it is tempting to go back to our “normal” but in our hearts we will know when it is time.
How many other temptations do we struggle with?
I started thinking about this devotion and temptations. I thought about when Jesus taught us how to pray, he added to the prayer…”Lead us not into temptation.” After reading that, 2 stories came to mind. Eve in the garden of Eden and Jesus after He was Baptized. Jesus went into the dessert for 40 days and was tempted.
Why did Eve lose to temptation when Jesus won?
Eve believed the serpent rather than God. Eve believed the lie, rather than the truth of God’s words.
Jesus was under control of the Holy Spirit. He turned to what He knew to be the truth. He turned to the Word of God.
When faced with temptation, who will you turn to?
Looking at the two example above, we see the importance of the Word of God in our decision-making.
I pray when I am tempted I will pause and look to the Word of God before I make a decision.
