The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic. Psalm 29:4
We do not always immediately recognize the voice of God, but the voice of God is revealed to us by the Spirit. Here are two good ways to begin listening for and recognizing the voice of God in your life. They both have to do with opening one’s life to the Spirit.
First, spend time in prayer listening for God to speak to you. Prayer is not only you speaking to God, but also listening to God speak to you. Ask the Lord to speak to you and listen patiently for the Lord’s voice.
Second, spend time in God’s Scriptures. The more you read the Bible, the more you begin to recognize what God’s voice sounds like. You begin to realize what kinds of things God says and what kinds of things God would not say.
Listen for the voice of God today. What is the Lord speaking to you? Come to know the voice of God just as Christ shares, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27).
