Walk By Faith

June 7, 2020

…but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31

Every commercial you see on television today begins with “in these uncertain times”. Yes, I agree, these are uncertain times. Actually, every day of every year is uncertain. We do not know what tomorrow will bring. We do not know if we are doing the right thing, if we are taking the right path, making the right decisions, if we are doing enough for our family, ourselves, our children. My faith is being tested. Many days I am weak and I give in to the temptation to worry and stress about the unknowns.

Today, I put on a pair of flip-flops and filled up our outdoor pool for the kids. I enjoyed the day, but worry and doubt kept creeping into my thoughts as I watched my children play fearlessly and joyfully. This evening, Streams in the Desert popped up on my phone. The devotion was titled “Cling to God in Faith,” inspired by Isaiah 40:31. God was whispering to me: Be still. Have faith. Do not fill your days with worry. I will be with you through the unknowns.

At that moment, I looked down at my feet. The random pair of flip-flops I had put on was from Pastor Chris and the La Casa youth group. And on the strap, in bold blue lettering, I read the exact thing God wanted me to remember: Walk by Faith. What more do I need to know?
